We all feel at some point, or at multiple points as we scale and grow our businesses the dreaded imposter syndrome.

That inevitable “do I really belong here?” or how about “what if I don’t really know what I am talking about”.

At the very least, it’s never wracking. But at the worst, it shuts us down and we get stuck or stop moving forward.

Ever hear of the phrase –

      imposter syndrome

Yup me too. Which sucks….because then I can’t wallow in it, because I know better.

Man awareness can be a bitch sometimes…and so is imposter syndrome.

People always ask me, how do I get so much done in a day?

Well I have all kinds of priority management strategies. I say “NO” a lot to people who want “just five minutes of my time” (I hope you used finger air quotes there) and I am very clear on who I work with and what I am offering  so that my time is used effectively and efficiently.

But that can only get you so far. The biggest and most important piece is having your head in the game of success.

And when our head isn’t in the game of success – we are fighting the beast known as Imposter Syndrome.

In Access, they refer to it as “fraud patrol” which is basically the same thing.

It’s a mindf*ck…Let’s not sugar coat it ladies.

Our thoughts, beliefs and self-talk screw us over so that we feel like we are never good enough. The guilt, the shame of not being perfect runs rampant through the streets of our daily lives.

And the only way to tame this is to mindfully remove those thoughts so that we can focus on what we are good at….offering our skills, wisdom and guidance to our ideal clients so that they can create the transformation they deserve.

Pro tip: No one, I repeat no one, gets it right the first time.

And sometimes we don’t get it right the second time, the third time or even the fourth time. But I am here to tell you that’s okay. As long as we get up, review what we created. Acknowledge joyfully what did work and then get to work polishing, revising or ditching what didn’t work.

That’s getting rid of imposter syndrome at the very basic level.

It’s where the big dogs play. We don’t mess around. So we did something and it sucked. Flopped big time. Was absolutely laughable at how horrible it went. Cool.

At least we did it, which is more than most people can say. Most people won’t even step up to the plate.

      imposter syndrome example

Here’s a personal life, imposter syndrome not gonna happen example:

I remember going out hiking and some family members making fun of how out of shape I was compared to them (now I have family members who run up mountains for fun…why? I believe it’s because mental illness runs in our family…just kidding….maybe not. You can decide if you meet them someday) and I thought it was hilarious.

Because I know, for a fact, that I was out there working at it while most were sitting at home on their couch doing nothing but Netflix binging.

So was it a complete failure?

Nope. I just took my time, stretched my lungs to the point of almost breaking, and kept going. Air, sunshine and exhaustion….all amazing in my world.

Are there people out there better at this than me? Yes.

      Do I care? No.

Do I call myself an avid hiker? Yes.

Do I believe I am outdoorsy? Yes.

Have I mastered the art of trail mix and getting lost using gps? 100% yes.

Does that make me an imposter? Nope.

Why am I not an imposter?

      • Because there are people out there that are struggling to even get out to the mountains. I can help them. There are people out there struggling to know what to pack. I can help them.
      • Unsure about whether or not a Lexus can travel up a logging trail and make it? Yes it can. I have done it and will share my driving tips with you….secret tip – it’s all in the music you play.
      • Lost and not sure what to say to ATV people you meet on the trail? I can give you a script that guarantees they will give you a ride either up the mountain or down.
      • Want to guarantee that you will lose your bear spray before getting 10 feet from the parking lot? I got you covered!

      See it doesn’t matter.

What matters is that you get out there and do it. It matters that you have fun, laugh at the crazy and don’t get too worked up. Because at least you are doing it.

At least you are making the effort, and with effort comes awareness, and with awareness comes new action.

Every single time I hit those mountains, I am stronger, more wise and have more fun. Even if I do the same trail multiple times, it is a different experience.

So how do you know that you have imposter syndrome in relation to your signature program?

      1. You have a fear of being discovered.
      2. Always worry that you don’t belong out there with the other people pitching your program
      3. You think that others that are offering what you are offering are better at it than you are so why bother
      4. Most times you feel like a complete fraud or that you need to take this training, this course…ooh and this one before you can do it (offer a signature program that is)
      5. Offering too many extras/bonuses/discounts. This is usually combo’ d with a self-worth issue.
      6. You have difficulty internalizing your success…otherwise as “owning it” girlfriend (insert finger snaps here)
      7. Believing that your success is due to outside factors, lucky once or chance…plus if something does go wrong due to external reasons, you blame yourself.

Now the big question is how do you get rid of imposter syndrome?

      1. Ask some of your favorite clients what they love about working with you. Then write that shit down. Keep it somewhere to refer to when things get tough.
      2. Be aware of when it crops up and use EFT, belief clearings, journaling, mediation, whatever floats your boat to release it from your mindset.
      3. Become aware that nothing is perfect. Use curiosity or treat it all as an experiment to see what shakes out. The re-evaluate what worked amazing and then make a tweak and polish list of things to improve upon for next time.
      4. Create a mantra for yourself. I like to use “Everyday in everyway I am getting better and better” or if want something a bit bigger I use “Universal wealth is flowing to me in avalanches of abundance. All of my needs, goals and desires are met instantaneously through infinite intelligence. I am one with the universe and the universe is one with me”. This I repeat one of the over and over again for the day. Instead of allowing negative thoughts to creep in. I purposefully program my thoughts with a mantra.

Remember we all have imposter syndrome at some point and that’s okay.

What you do with yourself when it shows up that’s what will propel you to success or put you back to start over again with your build…..I highly recommend the first one.

So I encourage you to go out there and just do you, the best version of you right now and keep getting better everyday.
