If you’re an entrepreneur building out your signature program or are preparing for a launch and you struggle with procrastination, or just can’t seem to stay focused, this review will show you the one tool – Brain.fm – that can turn all of that around so that you are a productivity powerhouse.
So…the big question…what’s up with the Brain.fm app? This full review for 2023 will answer many questions you have and some you didn’t even think to ask. Plus a couple of extra focus tips to enhance your physical and energetic body while you work.
First off a disclaimer: I am an affiliate for Brain.fm because I’ve been using it since 2020 and absolutely love the app. This does not affect what I share below. It does mean that if you purchase Brain.fm through my affiliate link you’ll save 20% with code 6figuresystem and I earn a commission. It’s not enough to send me first class to Italy, but it helps me keep the lights on in the office.
Ok, now that we’ve got the boring disclaimers out of the way, onto the fun stuff…here’s my full review of Brain.fm
Now I will be honest. I didn’t like the music at first. That’s because I am a hard core sing along kinda gal….but that also was affecting my productivity. My focus was not on getting the work complete, rather it was focused on …wait for it….singing along…and sometimes air guitar.
I tried Baroque music. Nope still tried to sing along…that was worse for anyone in ear shot.
Then I tried binaural beats…. A little bit better.
And then I came along this bad boy and thought I would give it a whirl for the trial period.
The first day I was annoyed – and shocked at how much I got done…as in completely done no rolling over into the next day.
Second day – blew through my work AND was not mentally exhausted like I normally was when I did that kind of work. I used the deep work music to create this miracle of productivity which meant I took Friday off!
Third day – loving it as I did up all my social media graphics using the creative flow music.
Fourth day – I tried the sleep music as the hubby struggles to sleep. Literally a tornado could have come and moved our house to Oz and I would have slept through it.
Now I have my two teenagers on it. One has ADHD – amazing results. The other has dyslexia and has had crazy improvement in her reading. They both are using the studying/reading focus music.
I know this is starting to sound like a late night infomercial and you are waiting for me to talk about the extra steak knives that cut through cans.
I’m not going to do that. And I also don’t recommend things unless I know they work for me first.
Now the interface is a bit weird and dated. But hey if dated works, I don’t care. The app version looks and works the best over PC or laptop for navigating.
Plus I find running it on my phone is easier to plug my noise cancelling ear buds into.
What is Brain.fm, and What’s So Good About This App?
Brain.fm is a scientifically developed functional music to improve your focus in 5 minutes or less. Tested on brain behaviour to create phase locking (which basically means, more of your brain is engaged in the work that you are doing as a true team…not one of those teams where you do all the work and they scroll through Instagram)
This has been tested thoroughly on how to use music to help us focus or sleep which for entrepreneurs we are usually lacking in both.
What’s great about it?
- They have a variety of sections depending on what you would like to use it for.
2. The music has me focused pronto. It’s like I lock in like a laser and the distraction fog lifts.
There are a variety of types to choose from under each category. For the purposes here I am going to share with you which ones I use for business and the tasks I am doing with each section.
I use the deep work version when I am writing emails, sales pages, workbooks, automation sequences, etc.
Creative flow for when I am putting together graphics, meditations, clearings or tapping audios to share.
I use study and read for my daily 30min of reading to increase my skill set
Light work is perfect when I am cleaning my office so that I don’t go on a tangent when going through paperwork, etc.
3. Brain.fm helps my kids. We weren’t aware that they had a different way of learning until they hit high school. Now that we are using brain.fm the stress, anxiety and overwhelm melts.
4. It helps my hubby sleep…and the rest of us. No one likes a grumpy, overtired Blehm. They are nasty to be around when they are.
5. They are always improving the app. They continually research and improve so that we can benefit and improve ourselves.
What’s NOT So Good About the It?
- Some of the music is a bit strange. This is done on purpose so that it doesn’t pull your focus. However I am a music lover and some of it is a bit weird for me.
You are able to skip through those wack-a-doodle ones until you find something you like.
- The website version leaves lots to be desired.
I have found that the app is much better in how it is all categorized. Then you can skip through the tracks to find one you like easier within the category of what you are doing. The website has it all listed under the three main categories which makes it longer to find something suitable.
So stick with the app!
- If you are not used to using focus music – your brain might hurt.
Just kidding it won’t hurt but you may find that you get tired after about 15 minutes or tingly, dizzy.
This is normal and in the beginning everyone goes through it. But if you have listened to focus music before it will be easier for you to listen for longer periods of time.
The effects of Brain.fm continue to work for a while after you have stopped listening so you can break it up into smaller chunks of listening time while you wean into it. It’s like having to do push ups for the first time…you might have to break those sets up a bit more than you will have to later.
I started out with 20min segments every hour and then worked up from there.

As Promised – Two More Focus Tips?
Now adding Brain.fm to my toolbox has significantly increased my efficiency. And when combined with these two little tidbits – world domination is imminent.
Focus Tip #1 – Feed your brain. I am not talking about what you read and say which is what this term stands for nowadays. What I mean is that your brain and entire nervous system runs on sugar and salt so you need to feed it.
I learned this a while ago and when I was in a hard core university studying for those finals, I used to keep sugar and salt packets in my desk drawer and back pack. Not healthy at all. I don’t recommend it. But it worked in a pinch.
Now before all you snackers rejoice – you need a minimal amount. Otherwise your brain will be jacked up and ready to go and your waistline will expand.
Don’t believe me? Do you crave sugar or salt when you are under pressure and can’t focus?
In Architecture, those that weren’t feeding their brain used to go up 1-2 pants sizes their first year in the industry. Full time designing is hard on the brain!
So what’s a minimal amount? This can be a small orange for sugar or a handful of berries. It can be a 1/4 cup of salted nuts.
Focus Tip #2 – 10min Movement Break Every 60min. You have probably heard this one before, but are you doing it?
Movement gets everything flowing so that your brain resets. When I am stuck on something or have “writers block” I get up and walk around. Just for a few minutes and it will do a world of good.
It’s like physical movement triggers mental movement. Building it right into your work schedule keeps everything flowing easily.
So there you have it – food, movement and music = powerhouse.
